Education DaysThe E & J Committee provides Education Days throughout the country so that each member has the opportunity to learn about vocal craft and skills. 2010 Education days were held at three locations for LABBS members only. Quartet Education DaysThe E&J are organising a repeat visit from Four Bettys for January 2011, following the successful event in 2010. For more information and a booking form please visit the Quartet page. Foundation CourseA stand-alone course which can replace the first year of judge training in all categories or just be a general educational course for your music team and singing members. The date of the next course is the weekend of 12-13 June 2010, at the RAC Centre in Walsall.
Harmony CollegeThe last Harmony College took place in April 2007. The date of the next Harmony College will be in 2012. Ladies may also attend the BABS Harmony College held over the August Bank Holiday weekend in Nottingham. Directors' EducationLABBS is committed to providing quality education for Directors and Music Team members, recognising that these people are central to ensuring the future development of the Association. For 2010 in lieu of an arranged FOD event, a grant of £100 is available to each chorus specifically for Director coaching/education.
Please visit the Directors' education page for more details. ArrangingA day for "improvers" at arranging was organised for Sunday April 26th 2009, at the Birmingham Conservatoire. There was also an advanced class with the esteemed David Wright, by invitation. A beginner's course on arranging is available every year at BABS Harmony College. Chorus Grants 2010The E&J is awarding every Chorus a grant of £75 in 2010. The grants are to be used for educational purposes. All claims must be made using the claim form and must be submitted along with supporting paperwork for the grant to be awarded. All claims must be received by 15th December 2010 and an SAE enclosed. Every club and quartet can also approach coaches or music, presentation and singing judges and willing trainees on the LABBS coaching programme via the Coaching Coordinator for their individual requirements. They're there! Use them! And remember your vouchers! Voice BoxE & J contribute regularly to the new LABBS magazine, Voice Box. Articles may cover ways to improve as an individual or as a chorus, shed light on what the Judges look for in competition or how to choose songs for competition. Look out for your next copy!
